About

Interventional care for chronic pain.

Axis Pain & Anesthesia Group is a physician-led practice focused on one thing: helping patients with chronic pain move, sleep, and live normally again — with the smallest intervention that gets the job done.

What we do

We diagnose and treat chronic pain with image-guided, minimally invasive procedures performed by a board-certified anesthesiologist and pain management physician. Most of what we do fits into an outpatient visit: an injection, a nerve block, a radiofrequency ablation, a minimally invasive spinal procedure. No long hospital stays, no open surgery, no pressure to take opioids for life.

Our goal is simple: the smallest intervention that restores function. For most patients, that is a targeted procedure combined with physical therapy and a conservative medication plan. For a smaller group, it is an advanced option like spinal cord stimulation or kyphoplasty. We explain every option, including the option to do nothing, before we recommend anything.

Our philosophy

  • Evidence-based. We favor procedures with strong clinical literature and a clear indication. We do not perform treatments just because they are available.
  • Conservative first. Where a brief trial of medication, physical therapy, or behavioral strategies has a realistic chance of helping, we try that first.
  • Minimally invasive. Needle-based, image-guided, outpatient wherever possible.
  • Transparent. We walk through the benefits, the risks, the alternatives, and the likely cost of a procedure before it happens.
  • Coordinated. We communicate directly with your primary-care physician, surgeon, physical therapist, or attorney as needed so your care does not fall through a gap.

Our physicians

Our team is led by two physicians who between them cover the anesthesiology and pain-management side of interventional pain care:

  • Jason E. Cohen, MD — board-certified anesthesiologist and pain management physician focused on interventional pain procedures, from routine epidural steroid injections to spinal cord stimulation.
  • Joseph Ahoubim, DO — pain management and musculoskeletal medicine.
