Your Visit

What to expect on your first visit

Most first visits last about 45 minutes and involve a conversation, a focused exam, and a plan. Here is a step-by-step walk-through so you know what to expect before you arrive.

Before your visit

When you call to schedule, our team will ask a few questions about the reason for your visit and any recent imaging or procedures. If you have a referral, insurance card, or legal representative (for lien cases), let us know at that time.

Please bring the following with you:

  • A government-issued photo ID
  • Your insurance card (or your attorney’s information if your care is on lien)
  • A list of current medications, including over-the-counter and supplements
  • Any recent imaging reports (MRI, CT, X-ray) or discs — bring the CD or a patient portal link if you have it
  • Notes on prior treatments (injections, surgery, physical therapy) and whether they helped

If you received an intake packet from us, please complete it ahead of time. Otherwise, plan to arrive 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork.

When you arrive

  1. Check-in. The front desk will verify your contact info, insurance, and reason for visit.
  2. Vitals and brief history. A medical assistant will take your blood pressure, heart rate, and ask about your current pain — where it is, how bad it is today, and what makes it better or worse.
  3. Consultation. Your physician will review your history, imaging, and prior treatments; perform a focused exam; and discuss what is likely going on and what options make sense.
  4. Shared decision. We walk through the options together — conservative care, a diagnostic block, a therapeutic procedure, or watchful waiting — including benefits, risks, and expected timelines. You decide what to do next.

You will leave the first visit with either a treatment plan, a scheduled procedure, or a referral for additional testing — and a clear sense of what is happening to your body.

If a procedure is scheduled

Many of our procedures are performed in a nearby outpatient facility on a day separate from your first visit. Typical procedures take 15–45 minutes of table time. You will receive:

  • A written reminder of the procedure, date, location, and arrival time
  • Pre-procedure instructions (for example, when to stop eating or hold certain medications)
  • A consent form to review before the day of the procedure

Most patients are asked to arrange a ride home if sedation is used. Plan to rest that afternoon.

After your procedure

You will usually go home the same day. Expect mild soreness at the injection site for 24–48 hours. We will tell you:

  • When you can return to normal activity (often within 24 hours)
  • What signs warrant a call to the office
  • When we want to see you back to measure how well the procedure worked

A follow-up visit is typically scheduled 2–4 weeks later so we can assess response and plan next steps.

Cost and billing

We accept all major insurance. Before a scheduled procedure, our billing team will contact your insurer for prior authorization and give you an estimate of your out-of-pocket cost. If your care is on a lien, our billing team coordinates directly with your attorney.
